The Elementary Division of Académie Ste-Cécile International School offers a full-time rigorous, academic programme with classes beginning from Junior Kindergarten through Grade Eight, delivered by a team of highly qualified and professional staff.

The ASCIS Elementary School provides an enriched curriculum with a strong focus on core academics, whilst nurturing the love of the arts and athletics through a variety of internal programmes. ASCIS believes in developing the talents and abilities of the ‘whole child’. Small class sizes are ideal for pupil-teacher ratio; designed to challenge and motivate our students to take risks and promote success for each student to thrive. Academic programmes are combined with educational field trips and clubs and activities in a safe and secure learning environment.

JK & SK

Académie Ste-Cécile International School offers full day, individual Junior and Senior Kindergarten classes. Classes have a low pupil-teacher ratio with instruction provided by qualified and OCT-certified teachers and supporting ECEs.

Both Kindergarten curriculums combine free play, directed discovery-based centres and structured lessons to teach phonics, language, mathematics and core French. Formalized printing of letters and numbers also begins in Junior Kindergarten and continues through the primary years. As well, students receive specific weekly instruction from specialized teachers in computers, coding, music, drama and literacy and visual arts. Daily physical
education classes in the gymnasium exceed DPA (Daily Physical Activity) requirements.

Monthly field trips to locations like J.R. Park Homestead, the Safety Village, Crock-a-Doodle, and Colasanti’s Tropical Gardens, extend our students’ learning into the community.

Before- and after-school programs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. are included in the tuition price. Additional supervision can be available; for a nominal charge.

Academics

At the Elementary level, Académie Ste-Cécile International School provides a strong academic curriculum centered on the acronym STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts and Music). Daily classes in English, including Spelling, Handwriting and
Cursive Writing, as well as Mathematics form the basis for a rigorous academic program. French language classes begin three times a week, starting in Junior Kindergarten with an
emphasis on French grammar. Science and Social Studies are also integral parts of the core curriculum, which is enriched with twice-weekly classes in Computer Science, Physical Education, Vocal and Instrumental Music, Visual Art, Drama, M.Y.P.; (Middle Years’ Leadership Project- IB) and M.U.N. (Model United Nations). Students Grade 1-6, will also participate in weekly Performance Arts Classes, linking the musical and mathematical brain. Notably, ASCIS’ dedicated computer curriculum focuses on web design, coding, robotics and keyboarding skills.

As an Inter-faith School; Religion or Ethics classes are also part of the weekly instructional programme. Students who attend Religion classes, also attend weekly Mass in ASCIS’ own Chapel. ASCIS students are supported by a strong team of highly qualified classroom teachers. Following Primary/Junior In ‘Senior’ Grades 5-8, students enjoy a full-time rotary curriculum. This means that ASCIS elementary students are taught in subject-specific classrooms by knowledgeable teachers who are experts in their subject areas. A low pupil-teacher ratio of 16 or less students per class offers students greater opportunities for direct instruction as well as leading discussions and group activities.

The Arts

Music

Starting with the primary grades, music is introduced through vocal performance and movement. Students learn to follow direction, sing in ensemble while keeping rhythm and acquire basic music concepts that prepare them for instrumental music classes in Grades 5 through 8. For Intermediate and Senior elementary students, ASCIS offers an instrumental program in which students become well-rounded musicians by learning
music concepts and theory, performance skills and how to interpret, create and utilize
computer music. Our music course prepare students for post-secondary studies.

Classes are available during and after- school with professional skilled musicians.

Drama

Drama plays a valuable role in helping our students achieve their potential as learners and members of society. Education in Dramatic Arts is essential to each student’s social, physical, emotional and intellectual growth and well-being. It paves the way for students to engage and be motivated with an abundance of acting strands, such as monologues, reader theatre and improvisation. The active participants in drama learn about some of the diverse practices in both traditional and contemporary approaches to the performing arts.

Visual Art

ASCIS’ Visual Art program allows students to express themselves while discovering and interpreting the world around them. The program provides opportunities to practise and
apply art concepts while promoting the development of creative and thinking skills. Students are challenged to master fundamental concepts with respect to the elements and principles of design. By creating personal works of art, students will problem solve, create, present, reflect, respond, analyse and explore.

Athletics

As a member of WCSA (Windsor Christian Schools Association), ASCIS elementary school teams compete against other member schools as well as other private schools in the Windsor area in the following sports: cross-country, soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and field and badminton. ASCIS annually hosts both the volleyball and basketball competitions for WCSA and W.E.A.L (Windsor-Essex Athletic League) in our new state-of-the-art gymnasium and soccer field, which is located on campus.

House league programs, which take place at lunch hour for students in Grades 2
through 6, offer the perfect way for younger students to develop their athletic knowledge and skills while having fun and keeping fit. The program focuses on the same sports that the senior students play, yet with modified expectations.

Students ranging from Grade 4 to Grade 8, may also participate in the Sports Skills Académie in both Soccer and Basketball; trained from external, professional coaches, in an additional athletics’ programme.
